Controlling Your Stroke Speed

A part of the game of pool that you need to control is your stroke speed.  This can lose or win you games in an instant.  With the control of speed you will have a better control on the cue and where it goes after your shot, which will allow you to preplan those shots that will come next.  With this ability you can possibly run a table without letting your opponent even get a shot in.

So what is a standard stroke speed?  The normal definition is your lag will be soft, but it can vary between soft and very soft, or even medium.  But a great way to practice your stroke speed is as follows.  This system uses different speeds for you to practice, and lags.  You will find a place that you can get the placement of nine balls on the table to practice your stroke speed.  You will set them up according to the chart, then take your cue starting at the head.  Make sure that you are relaxed while stroking through the ball.  Most of the time you should be using a medium speed in this case and sending the ball about three lengths.  If not practice will help you to get the correct speed needed here.

Pool is a game that requires practice to become better at, keep trying this first shot until you’ve gotten it down to a medium speed, between 4 and 6.  This will need to be your base stroke, or the speed that you use on most tables on any type of game.  Keep practicing to evolve the shot more and make it so that every single time you do this shot you are going the same speed.

Again pool is a game of practice every chance you get just set up the balls and practice on different speeds that you can use for different shots.  You will find that the more you practice the easier your combo shots will come in the game.

Plus you also need to remember to always be relaxed when making a shot, this is one of the most important ways to control a game, if you are nervous you’ll make more mistakes then when you are relaxed.
